Overview
Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) has started its journey in 2016 at Jashore University of Science and Technology. We offer Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering in short B.Sc. Eng. (BME) and PhD in BME. Our very first session of undergraduate program was 2016-2017. Biomedical Engineering is a multidisciplinary subject. It is a combined field of advanced medical technologies with the support of electronics, programming, artificial intelligence, biomedical instrumentations, communication protocols, drug delivery, clinical engineering, rehabilitation engineering and medical imaging.
To get authentic support from healthcare industry with maintaining bioethics is the primary concern of the honorable citizen of a country. The aim of department of BME, JUST is to make such efficient biomedical engineer who can perform in different healthcare industry like hospitals, clinics, diagnostic center and health research organizations with their high potentiality. Calibration and maintenance of medical equipment is a sensitive area of healthcare system without which patient cannot get the actual therapeutic or diagnostic services. Our students can be a part of this sector after completing their undergraduate program. There is a huge scope to improve the tools of healthcare industry by doing research works. Our graduates can join in any world class research institute and university as researcher to solve the healthcare related problems. There are a numerous field where they can involve such as- hospital equipment maintenance, bionanomaterial extraction from different natural sources for drug delivery, rehabilitation engineering, biomechanics, telemedicine, medical imaging, biosignal processing, artificial intelligence to predict diseases of future and etc.
Department of BME, JUST has its own laboratory to conduct different subject oriented experiments and research. Our department is well equipped with different modalities of biosignal extraction from human body as we have an advanced biosignal laboratory. We also have one electronics laboratory to provide basics of a medical instrument. To work faster with different analytical and simulation software, we have one computer laboratory, we also have a well formed rehabilitation engineering laboratory in which different research works are done with the physically injured patients. We also have a good setup of molecular biology laboratory. As it is a multidisciplinary subject, we wish to have a biomaterials laboratory to involve students in drug delivery research protocols, a telemedicine laboratory to provide support to patients from distance, a medical imaging laboratory to improve the existing imaging modalities, and a neural engineering laboratory to improve the condition of patients of numbness of nerve.
BME is an emerging engineering field. Many more research works are ongoing in the world on this field to make the healthcare modalities safe and secure. Graduates have multi diversities scope to enroll in national and international biomedical related research and service center. The renowned national bodies are NEMEW & TC, BCSIR, icddr,b etc. There are several international organization who are hiring biomedical graduates such as NASA, iqarus, IMO, UNO etc.
